Catarina Dias (1979, Londres) is an artist whose work embodies the fuidity between word and image, erosion and assemblage, the inner and outer world. Across various mediums, her practice is characterized by its dense yet contemplative nature, complicating the processes of perception through her sensitive pictorial language. Dias’s compositions are meticulously crafted, combining diferent techniques and materials. The intricate interplay of these mediums, along with their multifaceted subject matter, infuses her works with fragmented and juxtaposed narratives. This unique approach simultaneously evokes a sense of depth and urgency, imbuing her creations with rawness and vulnerability, as though the images she portrays barely contain themselves within the paper. She is perpetually concerned with the relationship between image and text, incorporating both remembered and archived words and phrases into her work. While these texts may initially appear to ofer a decipherable and readily comprehensible visual anchor, upon closer examination, they contribute to a sense of disquiet and disorientation. Dias employs imagery of destruction sourced from newspapers or magazine covers, raising questions about the boundaries between reality and imagination, past and present. Many of her works explore the connections between chance and violence.
