Untitled, 2020
Mixed media,
150 x 150 cm.

Cecília Costa (Portugal , 1971) repurposes an everyday material — paper tape, typically used to mask walls during painting — as her primary medium for drawing. In her interventions the second and third dimensions become intertwined and the booth becomes the new work! In her drawings she begins from studies on symmetry and dimensionality, seeking to play with the viewer’s perceptions. The figures, which at times recline or sink into their own resolution, live in a type of disconnect with reality as they provoke an imagistic subversion that straddles the border between the second and third dimensions.
