FONSECA MACEDO – ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA

Espeleólogos #17, 2025
Oil on canvas,
86 x 61 cm.

José Loureiro (Mangualde, 1961) is an artist who favors the technique of oil on canvas or paper. He develops his work in long series, among which stand out “Sinapse-morta” (Dead Synapse), “Ácaro” (Mite), “Criatura” (Creature), “Olho” (Eye), “Narciso” (Narcissus), and “Sinapse em ponta de diamante” (Diamond-Tipped Synapse).

From his vast exhibition career, special highlights include the presentation of the work “Bosão de L” (Boson of L), clearly associated with scientific terminology, at the Electricity Museum, in 2011; “A Vocação dos Ácaros” (The Vocation of the Mites) at the Carmona and Costa Foundation, in 2028; and “Croque Couleur” at Frac Grand Large, Hauts-de-France, an anthological exhibition integrating several series created since the 1980s.

A painter whose body of work shifts between abstraction and figuration, Loureiro will present new drawings entitled “Espeleólogos” (Speleologists), gathering or referencing previous series.
