José Lourenço (Portugal, 1975) is one of the most notable artists on the Portuguese art scene, who will exhibit a series of works on paper made this year, which continue his series “Habitat”. A series that began during the period of confinement in which the artist, isolated at home like millions of people, had to find an escape route from that situation that limited his life to the four walls of his studio; an escape route to the outside, which means that his works represent an unattainable and infinite exterior, seen from an open interior and in coexistence with the outside, a situation practically opposite to that experienced those days.
In these new works, the objects and furniture of architects and designers of the modern movement of the 20th century take center stage, which at the beginning of the series were still lifes included in his landscape paintings. Details of everyday life, such as books or flowers abandoned in the middle of the activity, transmitting the experience without protagonists.
