José Lourenço (Lisbon, 1975). The artist immortalizes moments through shadows and textures that detail certain dreams, these representations of environments where the eye is lost in nature, creating a universe of his own in which he feels protected and comforted. His recent works, grouped as a series entitled “Night Light,” perhaps seem less retinal and more sensual.

The artist’s fragmentary gaze outlines a concrete landscape. We are speaking, then, of a schematic practice of iron lines and flat colors that escape mere geometric representation, and therefore cold formal rigor, to move toward a warm poetic evocations. In short, a game of image construction.
