José Pedro Croft’s (b. Porto, 1957) methodology of attention and interpretation of space is particularly surgical. The drawing, which he sees as having an intrinsic relationship with sculpture, shows architectural traits. Not allowing himself to be “imprisoned” by traditional notions of artistic techniques, Croft deconstructs them by flowing between them.
José Pedro Croft (Born in Porto, 1957 – Lives and works Lisbon) is considered as one of the main Portuguese visual artists widely known for his geometric sculptures and paintings. His work transits without hierarchies between sculpture, drawing and engraving. Studied Painting at ESBAL (Escola Superior Belas Artes de Lisboa) and Sculpture with João Cutileiro.
Croft’s work is present in the collections of various international museums and institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Fundação de Serralves in Porto, the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon or the Museu de Arte Moderna in Rio de Janeiro.
