Lutz Braun, who lives in Berlin, creates works that depict ruinous, dreamlike, and nightmarish landscapes, some of which feature shadowy human fgures. Each idyllic element from urban scenes is intentionally eliminated, resulting in an atmosphere dominated by solitude and transience, evoking a sense of imminent closure. His works exude a strangely inviting allure, resonating with elements of the bizarre and the humorous. This thematic approach, combined with his unique narrative style, plays a pivotal role in Braun’s paintings and drawings. All of his creations possess a storytelling quality, akin to scenes from a theatrical stage. His landscapes often resemble frozen moments from a flm. Braun’s art consistently delves into the theme of mortality, with decaying urban sceneries, spectral humanoid fgures, and animals adding to the eerie ambiance. Some of his works conjure recollections of horror flm scenarios, while others draw inspiration from the world of comic strips. The artist actively strives to remove time as a limiting factor within his work, seeking to present it as a synchronous experience. As a testament to this approach, he refrains from dating his pieces, allowing them to transcend obsolete cultural associations and engage with viewers on their own terms.
