Instalation «Ten minuts of light»
Hours after hours, days after days are in fact necessary for Marlene Stamm to capture, register and assemble her 10 minutes of light. Far beyond the outstanding technical skills, her attention falls on a detailed preestablished method of patient execution. The result, quantified in an astounding exact number, evidences the procedure of exhausting repetition. For every single image, a match is lit and held, time is measured with a stopwatch, the duration of the flame is written down, the burnt match is photographed, then the watercolor painting is done. After that, units and drawings are filed. The paintings are assembled together in space according to the order they were done, covering the meticulously calculated walls that had been previously prepared for them. Many occurrences resemble. Sometimes the images and the duration of these operations coincide. Actually, it’s all about a created norm for an activity without a practical function that implies dosages of inescapable coincidence and the typical predictability of industrialized materials.
