Pedro Vaz was born in 1977 in Maputo, Mozambique. He lives and works in Lisbon. Pedro Vaz is a visual artist with over a decade of experience, whose work is based on hiking expeditions to semi-wild places around the world.
For over a decade, he has been developing pioneering artistic research on landscape and the relationship between humans and the natural environment. To produce his series, he undertakes demanding and even adventurous expeditions, such as: the complete crossing of the Superstition Mountains in the Arizona Desert, USA; the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil; the Alps on the Tour du Mont-Blanc; or the Laurissilva Forest on Madeira Island.

His artistic mediums are primarily painting and video installation, which frequently transform the museum or gallery space into an immersion chamber, evoking the experience of an expedition. His production method also includes a studio phase, in which the memory of the experience of the place is transposed into painting and video editing, resulting in magnificent paintings and panoramic projections with sophisticated technological solutions.
