Sobral Centeno (Portugal, 1948) explores the transmission of memory: within his rapid brushstrokes’ hierarchical chaos, moments of his consciousness are hidden. The ladder, a symbol constantly present in his works, carries an order of orientation that directs our gaze. We can even identify his frenetic and persistent study of written systems. This is a continuity in Sobral’s work, in an attempt to understand and share his lived political and cultural experiences.

He graduated in Fine Arts (FBAUP), received a scholarship from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (1983-1985) and taught at Instituto Politécnico do Porto (1987-2006).
