A Mostra Espanha, a biennial festival of Spanish culture that will open in 2024, is a program of cultural activities promoted by the Ministry of Spanish Culture in Portugal, whose main objective is to show the dynamism and the creativity of Spanish cultural industries today. Its final purpose is, however, to offer experiences of cultural dialogue between the two countries that allow the creation of common projects in the immediate future. These activities are the result of the interest and joint participation of Spanish and Portuguese institutions and open different areas, from painting and photography exhibitions to meetings of artists, writers and specialists in different disciplines, including performing arts and concerts and musical performances. The Spanish Show is organized by the General Subdirectorate of International Relations and European Union of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Portugal and with the support of Spanish Cultural Action (AC/E) and the Cervantes Institute of Lisbon. The Mostra also counts on the support of the Portuguese Government, through the Ministry of Culture, various Municipal Chambers and a large number of cultural institutions and festivals and events already consolidated in Portugal.
This latest edition of Mostra Espanha is especially related to the 50th anniversary of the arrival of democracy to Portugal, a historical moment in which culture played a fundamental role through literature, cinema, theatre, plastic arts and music.
This edition of Mostra Espanha includes several activities linked to the different transition processes for democracy in both countries under the motto “Portugal-Spain. 50 years of culture and democracy.” The program will run from September to November and will include activities in different parts of Portugal.
