Papeleo 7 Cuadernos Drawing Room From trail to trace is dedicated to Portuguese artists

The launch of Papeleo 7 will take place during the opening of the Drawing Room on October 23rd at 5 pm. The artistic collective PIZZ BUIN (composed of Rosa Baptista, Irene Loureiro, Vanda Madureira and Sara Santos) will perform a performance in which the artists will intervene in the 200 copies of Papeleo.

Invitations to participate in this year’s Papeleo were extended to a group of artists with very diverse practices: writers who draw, artists who write, artists who practice visual anthropology, artists who resort to performative actions, artists who rarely use drawing, and artists who limit drawing to sketching. We sought to find the common ground of drawing in the diversity of intentions. The montage—the sequence and proximity—of the images resulted in a kind of drawing story. With an imprecise and mythical origin, as it should be, drawing emerges as a desire to capture a presence, a passage, an event. Initially with the most prosaic means, it then moves on to the refinement of the line, into a sign, into writing, into a concept: From trail to trace.

Maria do Mar Fazenda, an independent curator, selected 22 artists: Bernardo Bello, Bruno Borges, Catarina Dias, Catarina Lopes Vicente, Constança Arouca, Daniel Fernandes, Flávia Vieira, Francisca Carvalho, Francisco Vidal, Henrique Pavão, Isa Toledo, Isabel Madureira Andrade, Luísa Jacinto, Maja Escher, Maria Lis, Mariana Barrote, Pedro Calhau, Pizz Buin, Roger Paulino, Rui Dias Monteiro, Sara Mealha, and Tiago Baptista.
