Alexandre Conefrey was born in 1961, in Lisbon, where he lives and works. He attended the Drawing course at Ar.Co, in Lisbon, between 1993 and 1995. He participated in the Exchange Program between the Royal College of Art, London, and Ar.Co, sponsored by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He exhibits since the mid 90’s, in Portugal and abroad. His work is represented in several collections, namely: Ar.Co Collection, Lisbon; Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection, Lisbon; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation – Modern Collection, Lisbon; MAAT Collection – EDP Foundation, Lisbon; Carmona e Costa Foundation, Lisbon; Manuel de Brito Collection, Lisbon; António Cachola Collection, Elvas; Figueiredo Ribeiro Collection, Abrantes; among others.
His work is developed through a detailed search of the simplicity of gesture and its potentialities of expression, in an aware exploration around various materials, compositions, references and forms of representation in the practice of drawing on paper.
