CLAIRE DE SANTA COLOMA

Argentina, 1983

3+1 ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA

The Claire Santa Coloma´s works are an extension of the artists’ sculptural practice, which lies central to her practice, even more so recently as Santa Coloma’s current studio is surrounded by a nature reserve in the North of Sydney. On first approach the forms do not reveal until closer inspection that they are compiled of hundreds of micro organic-like cut-out forms, they are activated by light passing through them to unveil the shadow projected behind them, here, the sculptural nature of Santa Coloma’s processes are addressed. Much in the same way the artist approaches her sculptural work which address the “economy of gesture” and the mediative act of production, the cut-out works also call upon the tradition of carving wood, whereas here it is the cutting of the paper.
