GONZALO ELVIRA
Pagatonia, Argentina, 1971
Gonzalo Elvira lives and works in Barcelona since 2000. The drawings presented for Drawing Room belong to his artistic project “Bauhaus1919, modelo para armar”. The artist has been working for several years in this project, reflecting around the art school that symbolizes utopia and in which the artist places the focus on his works.
The title of the project, hides a wordplay between the school’s year of creation and the title of the book “62/ A Model Kit” by Julio Cortázar.
The objective data of the only female presence of Gunta Stölz within the teaching staff and somehow the students were sent to the textile, ceramics workshops, justifies the artist’s tribute to the creations of the textile workshop, which in his opinion were the most interesting productions that were made in the school. Gunta Stölz, Anni Albers, Liz Volger were leading figures in this field of creation.
