GALERIA MONUMENTAL

Call it shadow or illusion is the fourth moment of the «wordsworthian notebooks», which Margarida Lagarto has been working on for years together with The Prelude, a long autobiographical poem by the English Romantic poet William Wordsworth (1770-1850).
As in a phenomenon of inverse phototropism, Margarida Lagarto directs her gaze and her line, in the walking landscapes that are, after all, all the works of this interior and exterior artist/walker, towards the shadows, towards the clouds, towards the puddles that the rain leaves in mirrors of skies and submerged gardens. This time, it also brings us concrete testimonies of this reflection on nature and its permanent metamorphosis, that the drawing captures the living, the fragility, the instant and the shadow. Gradation from the indigo of the sky to the purple of the tradescantia, those dark-toned leafy plants that are also large and determined walkers.
Margarida Lagarto was born in Veiros, Estremoz, in 1954. She lives and works in Évora. She studied painting at the António Arroio School, in Lisbon, between 1969 and 1975. She attended the painting course at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, between 1979 and 1981. Her painting, drawing and sculpture work has been presented in several solo exhibitions, as well as in different colective exhibitions.
