MARIANA GÓMEZ
Bogotá, Colombia, 1990
Presented by ADRIÁN IBÁÑEZ GALERÍA
Mariana is a Colombian artist that since the very beginning of her career her work has been concentrated on the concept of the female body and how it is stigmatized, questioned and boasted in different cultures around the world. She investigates how each woman possesses a private micro universe in where she keeps, cares for and enhances her own body.
Mariana tries to put her own body to the limit, taking it to extremes where the legs are about to give up and the arms about to break. She holds a pose as much as she can to make a portrait of her own body in pain. After achieving the perfect portrait, she interprets it in drawings superimposing one on top of the other, to see her body submerged in itself, completing its own voids… But at the same time twisting, breaking and ending.
