MIMI TAVARES

Lisbon, Portugal,1962

GALERIA MONUMENTAL

Mimi Tavares’ work reflects a constant exploration of intimate spaces, everyday objects, inhabited houses whose inhabitants have gradually disappeared from her paintings. They leave, however, the marks of an absence that fills the entire space, capturing that moment of abandonment and surprising us with the permanence of memories, inherited furniture and the order/ disorder so unequivocally human they capture.
Graduated in Painting by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon in 1988. Illustration Course at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation with the painter Maria Keil (1982). Displays her work regularly on an individual basis since 1983, and since 1985, at Galeria Monumental, participating in several group exhibitions, both in Portugal and abroad.
Her work is represented in the contemporary Art Collection of the DG for Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture of Portugal)
