Lives and works in Lisboa. He began exhibiting his work in the 1970s, and had his first solo show in 1982. Since then, several other solo exhibitions have been held at various galleries and museums, including Fundação Gulbenkian, Lisbon (1991); Petit jardin et paysage, Chapelle de la Salpêtrière, Paris (1993); Studiolo, INTERVAL – Raum fur Kunst & Kultur, Witten, Germany (1998); Madre Agua, MEIAC – Contemporary Art Museum, Badajoz and CAA – Andalucia Contemporary Art Centre (2002); Obras Escolhidas 1992-2004, Fundação Gulbenkian, Lisbon (2004). His work was featured in various group events, such as the biennials of Venice (1986) and São Paulo (1978 and 1991), as well as a number of exhibitions, including: Perspectives, Marne-La-Vallée Contemporary Art Centre (1994); Tage Der Dunkelheit Und Des Lichts, Kunstmuseum Bonn (1999); EDP ARTE, Museu de Serralves, Porto (2001); Del Zero al 2005.
