Leiria, Portugal, 1976

GALERIA BELO-GALSTERER

Rita Gaspar Vieira lives and works between Lisbon and Leiria.
She began to exhibit in the second half of the 2000s, working mostly with used objects, wood and paper. With a practice based on drawing and three-dimensionality, Rita Gaspar Vieira’s work explores the relationship between private and collective memory of inhabited places, highlighting the relationship between daily practices and the artistic procedures of those methods that establish her work. In all these actions, the use of water is crucial. Moreover, in her praxis, handmade cotton paper production is frequent, constituting the origin of her drawings and installations.
Her work is part of several institutional collections, as e.g. PLMJ, Lisbon; António Cachola – MACE, Elvas (PT); Marin.Gaspar, Alvito (PT); City Council Leiria, Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra, Figueiredo Ribeiro, Abrantes (PT); Museum MACS (BR), as well as being part of diverse private collections in Portugal.
