RUI SERRA

Elvas, Portugal, 1970

ARTE PERIFÉRICA – GALERIA DE ARTE

Lives and works in Lisbon. He majored in Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon.
The artist presents a new series of works on paper, titled Ouvi Dizer, whose technique consists of overlapping and bonding graphite-pigmented papers. This set of works is presented as a metaphor for a trip. The author, like an Argonaut from a distant past, suggests undertaking a journey through inhospitable and unknown territories in which constituent elements are seen to have human behaviour and emotion. Simultaneously, Rui Serra creates a set of models that also evokes the sensations obtained with the graffiti drawings, and paradoxically enunciates a future archaeological finding.
