Carolina Serrano (Portugal, 1994) lives and works between Cologne (DE) and Lisbon (PT). Has a BA and MA in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon, as well as a postgraduate degree in Art Curatorship from FCSH, NOVA University Lisbon. Serrano’s work and research revolve around the temporal dimension of sculpture, the dematerialisation of sculpture and the attempt to understand what it means to be human, exploring opposing concepts such as good/bad, inside/outside, freedom/enclosure, violence/innocence, light/shadow. The concept of ‘being-in-between’, which is linked to the attempt to understand what it means to be human, through the notion of duality and antagonism, is fundamental to her work, since this ‘in-between space’ is what she aims to embody through sculpture.
