Cecília Costa (1971, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal). As a multidisciplinary artist Cecília has presented objects, installation, sound, distorted furniture, unexpected materials such as ice and helium and diferent kinds of modifed ready-mades. Although she has explored a variety of artistic disciplines, drawing and sculpture remain chosen media, and both feeding on each other.
Mathematics studies have emphasized her interest in symmetry, gravity and in space dimensions. We are symmetrical beings submitted to gravity and that physically inhabit the third dimension.
The barrier between the second and third dimension causes her an uneasiness desire for subversion. The immateriality of the line that gives body to the drawings sometimes gains sculpture properties such as weight, density and elasticity.
On the one hand she draws as if it was a sculpture, carving and creating real spaces with depth in the plane or submitting the line drawing to the same properties of matter and on the other hand she sculpts by trying to shufing the properties of matter behond the wellknown second and third dimensions.
