MARÍA OSSANDÓN, author of the work selected for the DRAWING ROOM LISBON 2025 image
Chilean artist María Ossandón (Santiago, 1986) holds a degree in Art Studies (Catholic University of Chile, 2015) and a degree in Fine Arts (ARCIS University, Santiago, Chile, 2011). She has developed her career as an exercise in memory and resistance; transforming the representation of the landscape into a denunciation of the fragility of our heritage, both natural and cultural.
Presented in DRAWING ROOM 2025 by the Galician gallery Trinta, Ossandón has exhibited extensively in her home country and in the United States, and more recently at institutions such as the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art (CICA) in Gimpo, South Korea, the Centro Transnazionale Delle Arti Visive in Venice, Italy, and the SomoS Art House in Berlin, Germany.
“Reconstrucción”, 2025, selected as the image for the 2025 edition of Drawing Room Lisboa, is a series of ink drawings that rework miniature scenes or landscapes found in small broken fragments of porcelain that the artist collects, connecting universal memories with personal experiences, creating an almost archival representation of these landscapes. Ossandón visited antique fairs with the gaze of a collector of objects that bear witness to other times, stories that seem to yearn to be seen again or that resist being discarded in societies where immediacy and lack of permanence cause them to be replaced by other objects, equally doomed to become waste. She imagined the missing parts of these accounts, assuming the role of a graphic historian of the lived experience.
