ALBERTO CARNEIRO

Portugal, 1937-2017

3+1 ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA

From a young age, Alberto Carneiro was involved in woodworking in the “Santeiro” workshops, a practice that later developed into contemporary sculpture using natural materials: wood and stone. Throughout his career, his drawings often reflected the environments around his studio, the mountainous ranges in the North of Portugal, his private gardens and the interwoven elements of sky, wind and clouds encompassing them. The drawings of gestural mountain ranges, seemingly evocative of human forms, which has been produced in the latter of his career, they appear as gliding shadow lines across the paper, much in the same manner as clouds obscuring light on the landscape as they pass above our heads.
