MONITOR

Lives and works in Lisbon. The artist lived her childhood, between the Matola and Polana neighborhoods of Maputo, during the Mozambican civil war. In 1983, she moved with her family to Portugal. Her diasporic life path influences her work, but in her paintings, she does not confront the theme of African identity directly but merges it alongside memories, images, and feelings harvested throughout her journey. In her figurative work, Eugénia Mussa employs an impressionist technique of oil painting with musical randomness, floating freely between styles, genres, or pre-established paradigms.
Among her solo exhibitions we highlight: Easy Peasy, Monitor Rome (2022); ROLLA/COSTA Let´s Find out, Monitor (2021); Hubble Volume, Sindicato dos Pintores, Lisbon (2019); Meridiano Pacífico, Galeria Quadrum, Lisbon (2017); Retrospectiva, Espaço Arte e Tranquilidade, Lisbon (2013).
In group, the following: Tisanas: infusões para tempos próximos, Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, Évora, cur. Maria do Mar Fazenda, (2022); Ladder to the moon, Monitor, Rome, (2020); The third Bank, AnoZero Bienal, Coimbra (2019); Próximo Futuro, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon (2013).
