ARTE PERIFÉRICA

Paulo Damião’s work addresses questions about portrait and self-portrait; the aesthetic and philosophical concept of human representation. This most recent series of works, entitled “Experiences of Narcissus”, is the result of the artist’s observations on identity, making a kind of critique of the distorted reality that happens on social networks in today’s world. There is a kind of cult of the image, in which filters and other means of camouflage are used so that people can modify their appearance. In this way, they can be socially accepted and be followed by more people, although this process is the result of a “lie”.
